Mandarin Club
I’m not a noodle lover. Where else can I get a drink and a feed in Chinatown? The newly-opened Mandarin Bar, with its various levels and wide variety of food and drink, will sort you out.
What’s the look? Slick, ground floor Bar One is good for a casual drink or dinner. Its indoor bar opens seamlessly to an alfresco dining spot where generous couches and earthy tones are offset by carved flower columns and lots of glass.
Good cocktails? The raspberry or lemongrass mule, served tall, are both positively more-ish, but it’s also hard to go past the vanilla infused tequila margarita with fresh lime and sugar rim.
I’m hungry! Bypass the somewhat sparse tapas menu for the hearty mains – there’s everything from duck and sun-dried tomato sausages on saffron mash to pork belly with red cabbage and orange chilli jam.
What’s the vibe? Chilled. Mellow beats play outside so it’s a good place to sip, nibble and chat.
Wow factor? Free live music on Friday and Saturday nights. And Mon-Wed from 5-7pm, there are $3 drinks and $5 pizzas.
